Kenton Koch
Ever since his parents got him a kart at age 8, Kenton Koch has been addicted to racing. He has been racing for 10 years now and has recently transitioned from open wheel racing to sedans.
After years of karting and a number of wins, Kenton entered the 2010
Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout and where he earned credit to partially fund his Skip Barber regional racing in 2011. 2011 was not one of his best years, but he made up for it at the end of the year. He finished 2nd at the
Skip Barber Race Series Championship Shootout. That earned him $30,000 for 2012.
Koch used his Championship Shootout winnings to make his transition from open-wheel/formula racing to sedan/sports car racing. Known as “Big Bird” around pit lane, Koch barely fits into an open wheel race car and actually climbs out of the top of the MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge MX-5 he will be racing in 2013.
Last year Koch won the Skip Barber Summer MAZDASPEED Challenge Series earning him a seat in the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge that is a feeder system into the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup. His goal is to be a pro racer in Grand-Am.
Koch thanks his parents for their support, Skip Barber Racing School and the MAZDASPEED Driver Development program. All it takes is some effort and work along with great training and guidance from their staff.
Koch credits his maturity to some of the biggest names in motorsports, like Bob Varsha from the Speed Channel, Jeremy Shaw, and David Williams. He says racing has also taught him discipline because he is his brand and everything he does impacts his ability to find another ride.
Another important part of his life is his faith in Jesus Christ.
