Champion’s Perspective: Preparing for the 2013 Summer Series

2012 Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout Champion Yago Cesario won a seat in the Skip Barber Summer Series presented by Mazda. This is his description of how he is preparing for the 8 weekend, 16 race series that starts April 24-28, 2013 at Virginia International Raceway.

I came back training on cars yesterday (Wednesday, February 6th) because my hometown’s raceway was closed in the end of the year because of the holidays and to do some repairing. Besides we were changing some old parts of the car, but I didn’t stop training in the meantime.

I was training in go karts almost every day during this vacation and took part in some go kart races in December and January. I was also doing some workouts almost every day on top of my hobby of boxing and muay thai classes. Of course, I was playing on iRacing with the Skip Barber formula car.

I started at college, so my routine has changed a little bit. I am still adapting. The good news is that now I have more time to train at least before the tests start, so if everything goes right, I will train on cars 3 times or more per week and maybe train in a go kart once a week.

I do some sort of workouts every day. I have muay thai classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, boxing classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and train on iRacing with the Skip Barber on the tracks that I will race in the Summer Series to have some idea of how they set up.

The tracks I from Skip Barber experience are the south course at VIR from the Karting Shootout and Sebring Modified where I did my 3 Day Racing School. Although I don’t know most part of the tracks that I will race, I think it will not be a big problem. My experience in a go kart has given me the ability of adapting to different tracks quickly.
